Professor Thomas E. Starzl, MD., Ph.D. is Professor of Surgery, University of Pittsburgh, U.S.A. He is recognized for his pioneer work in organ transplantation which includes kidney, liver, pancreas, small intestine, heart and lung. His researches have contributed to the development of novel techniques in immunosuppressive drugs, organ procurement, organ preservation, tissue matching, surgical technique, and team work in organ transplantation. Dr.Starzl is also the first to perform liver transplantation.
