The Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) is a panel with a three-award-year term which searches
year-round for instances of significant achievement in medicine and public health that
benefit mankind substantially. Its members then focus on the key individual or
individuals responsible for the achievement and encourage appropriate parties to
nominate them for the award. The advisory committee meets each January,
June and September, and, in the last session, shortlists the nominees.
This list is then submitted to the International Award Committee, together with a summary
of each candidate’s accomplishments. The SAC members are either Thai scientists or
high-ranking public-health technocrats. The panel is supported by a full-time secretariat.
