   On 7 March 2011 at 14:00 hrs. Clin Prof Supat Vanichakarn, Secretary General of Prince Mahidol Award Foundation under  Royal Patronage; Mr. Thanee Thongpakdee, Director of Press Division, Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Prof Vicharn Panich, Chairman of Prince Mahidol Award Youth Program Steering Committee; Assoc Prof Apichat Asavamongkolkul, Chairman of Prince Mahidol Award Youth Program Working Committee; and Prof Wanchai Wanachiwanawin, Chairman of Prince Mahidol Award Youth Program Selection Committee, together issue a press release on the names of the 2nd Prince Mahidol Award Youth Program scholarship recipients for 2010 at the Hall in front of Prince Mahidol Aduldej Room, 4th floor of Siriraj Medical Library, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University.
     The names of five scholarship recipients of Prince Mahidol Award Youth Program are as follows:
    1. Miss Jutamas Saoraya   Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University
    2. Miss Trusanee Chartmethakul  Phramongkutklao College of Medicine
    3. Miss Naruchorn Kijpaisalratana  Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University
    4. Mr Parunyou Julayanont   Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University
    5. Mr Anawin Sanguankeo   Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University

  

     Nineteen applicants from 8 institutes were nominated for Prince Mahidol Award Youth Program in 2010. Only 9 successful applicants meet the criteria of Prince Mahidol Award Youth Program.  The Selection Committee selected the scholarship recipients and presented to the Board of Trustee which HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn is a President. The final decision had been made on 15 June 2010.
     Prince Mahidol Award Youth Program has been established on 20 November 2008 according to the 2nd/2008 consensus of the Prince Mahidol Award Foundation Committee. The program aims to inspire and facilitate Thai youths studied in the health fields to pursue their dedicated life for the benefit of mankind following the footsteps of HRH Prince Mahidol of Songkla.
     The steering committee, the working committee, and the selection committee are responsible to select the applicants who meet the criteria of the program, and present their names to the Board of Trustee which HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn is a President, for a final decision.
     The successful applicants will obtain a scholarship for research study, professional training or community development abroad or in the country with full support for 12-month overseas placement. The period of overseas placement of the scholarship recipients will be considered as a part of their three-year working period for the government of Thailand.
     
    

Miss Jutamas  Saoraya
        Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University


     Miss Jutamas Saoraya is a sixth year medical student at the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University.  She is interested in pursuing the research on “Power-up Emergency Department Administration in Thailand” with the concept to help taking care of the ER patients.  This field has an opportunity to develop in many aspects both in pre and post hospitalization.  The most common problem is the number of patients exceeding the potential of the emergency room which will affect on the quality of care and hospital’s medical ethics.  Miss Saoraya has foreseen these problems; therefore, she has presented the project to find the way to adapt the knowledge gains abroad to develop the emergency management system in Thailand.
     Miss Saoraya has received many honors and awards as follows: She passed the first and second national license examination ranking in the 99th percentile nationwide. In 2009, she won second place in research poster presentation at the 10th Thai medical education conference. In 2007, her medical education research received best oral presentation awards at The Fourth Congress of the Asian Medical Education Association at Bangkok, Thailand. In addition, she was chosen ‘Miss Popular’ by classmates in 2006 and 2008.
    

 

 Miss Trassanee  Chatmethakul
            Phramongkutklao College of Medicine


    
 Miss Trassanee Chatmethakul is a sixth year medical student at Phramongkutklao College of Medicine.  She is interested in performing a research on “Integrated Community-Based Palliative Care for Chronic and Terminal Patient”.  She received the inspiration from the the “Thammarug Niwaet”, one project at Wat Phra Bat Nam Phu, founded by Chao Khun Phra Udom Prachatorn. This project has created a safe haven and home for those in the final stages of the disease to come and be part of a caring and nonjudgmental community. With love, compassion and humanity they treat and console the spirit of HIV/AIDS patients. This concept has given Miss Chatmethakul an idea to explore the possibility to develop the care system for the chronic and terminal patients in the future.
     Miss Chatmethakul has received a number of honors and awards as follows:
     2009  Student commander for assistant chief of Company 3
     2008  Student commander for assistant chief of Platoon 1, Company 3
     2007  Member of Asian Medical Student Association Thailand.
     2006  Student commander for Section position of Company 4

 

Miss Naruchorn  Kijpaisalratana
     Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University


     Miss Naruchorn Kijpaisalratana is a sixth year medical

 student at the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University.  She is interested in performing a research on “Regenerative Medicine: Neuroregeneration in traumatic brain Injury” which is a significant disease in public health of Thailand and other countries in the world.  The treatment for the patients with traumatic brain injury has many restrictions and the results are not as expected.  Therefore, Miss Kijpaisalratana has a strong intention to work on the stem cell to find the way to treat those patients for better outcome.
     Miss Kijpaisalratana has received many honors and awards as follows:
2008 Receive the award from the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University for bringing the fame to the University (by receiving AMEE awards in 2007).
     2007 Received AMEE Awards with support of the Patil Family in 2 catagories; Teaching and Learning and Student Issues from the short communication presentation of the research on “CINEMEDUCATION: Learning professionalism through  films  at  Chulalongkorn  Medical  School” in the conference: The Association for Medical Education in Europe 2007 (AMEE 2007) at Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway.
     2006 Join the medical education research presentation on “Students satisfaction with their first year at the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University” in the 4th Asia Pacific Medical Education Conference at the National University of Singapore.
2006 Join the campaign and knowledge dissemination on “Cervical Cancer” by Standing Committee on Public Health-International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (SCOPH-IFMSA)
   

 Mr. Parunyou  Julayanont
        Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University

 Mr Parunyou Julayanont is a sixth year medical student, Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University.  He is interested in performing a research on “Development of non literated neuropsychological test in screening the amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI)” for the elderly in all levels of education. Alzeimer is the most common disease found in the elderly.  Mr Julayanont has a strong desire to develop a high accuracy test to screen the aMCI condition in order to replace the neuroimaging in the developing countries to increase the opportunity to care the disadvantaged groups in the different regions of the world.
     Mr Julayanont has received a number of honors and awards as follows:
     2009  Representative of medical students for poster presentation on “Portfolio as an instrument to identify the weakest links in the curriculum” in the Association for medical education in Europe Conference 2009 (AMEE 2009)
     2008  Representative of medical students in the seminar of medical curriculum improvement 2008 at the Montien Hotel, Pattaya, Chonburi.

             Mr Anawin  Sanguankeo
                           Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University

 

     Mr Anawin Sanguankeo is a sixth year medical student at the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University.  He is interested in performing an “Obesity prevention project”, a research and policy to solve the obesity problem. The inspiration of seeing a large number of patients coming to see the doctors with chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and hypertension makes him realize the importance of effective prevention and the ability of prevention by themselves. Nowadays, one of the important risk factors of chronic diseases is obesity. As a result, he will try to find the knowledge of behavior modification to prevent obesity.
     Mr Sanguankeo received many honors and awards as follows:
     2010 Selected for oral presentation at Leiden International Medical Students' Conference in The Netherlands
     2009 Head of Academic Committee of Siriraj Medical Students Association
     2009  Chairman of Siriraj Ruamjai Against 2009 H1N1 Influenza project
     2009 President of Siriraj’s International Relations Club
     2008  Received a bronze medal for Pathology, Clinical Pathology and Pharmacology Course.
     2007 Local Officer of Research Exchange Committee of International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations
     2007  Received the most outstanding student award
